Flower Fridays: Garden Sage

Sage Smudge SticksI love herbs in the garden. Many are so hardy that they keep their shape while giving off their fragrance even after freezing nights in early December. We used sage, thyme, oregano and rosemary from our garden a few weeks ago for our Thanksgiving meal. Sage is the most amazing of the lot.  Sure, it isn’t growing in leaps and bounds at this point, but there is enough left that I can continue to cook with it through the holidays. And gathered in bunches, sage makes wonderful smudge sticks to burn when you want to cleanse your space and bring in good vibes. What is your favorite garden herb?

The Cross Roads; Or, The Haymaker’s Story (excerpt)
By John Clare

And where the marjoram once, and sage, and rue,
And balm, and mint, with curl’d-leaf parsley grew,
And double marigolds, and silver thyme,
And pumpkins ‘neath the window climb;
And where I often, when a child, for hours
Tried through the pales to get the tempting flowers,
As lady’s laces, everlasting peas,
True-love-lies-bleeding, with the hearts-at-ease,
And golden rods, and tansy running high,
That o’er the pale-tops smiled on passers-by.

XOXO Rachel
